Making a major foray into film production, Sai Prasad Media Pvt. Ltd. consists of three divisions; Entertainment Division, Print Division and Electronic Division. The entertainment Division is soon to release ‘Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein’ (Hindi) and ‘Kashala Udyachi Baat’ (Marathi) directed by Pramod Gajanan Joshi and produced by Suresh Lal Shrivastav. The film also stars Sachin Khedekar, Atul Parchure and Mrunal Kulkarni. The film has music by Dr. Salil Kulkarni on the lyrics of Sandeep Khare, while Salil Sahasrabuddhe is the cinematographer for both the versions.Balaji Iyer project executor.
S. L. Shrivastav - Group- CEO, Sai Prasad Media Pvt. Ltd., says, “We have two noted actors Anupam Kher and Sachin Khedekar playing two strong characters and they will capture the imagination of the country with their performances in this social satire.”
The story of Anupam Kher’s strong blind characterisation is very interesting! During the first day of shoot, Marathi director Pramod Gajanan Joshi didn't know what hit him when just 15 minutes before the first day of shooting Anupam Kher announced to the director that he wanted his character of a social commentator to be blind! “When Anupamji told me about this thought, its true that I was completely taken aback. He then understood my side and asked to hold the shoot for an hour just to think about it. Still I was not getting convinced since we have been working on the script from 4 months. My query was simple: How can u make such a vital change? Then we sat and had discussion and during which he actually in acted the scene in our room, which was ready for the shoot outside. This exercise was encouraging enough to make me understand what he was trying to convey. And the line thought occurred in my mind - a blind person giving vision to normal person,” said Pramod Gajanan Joshi.
Pramod Joshi added, “Luckily for next 7 days we were supposed to shoot a song sequence and after which the next schedule was planned with a gap of one month. So I had time to make necessary changes in the script. We did this and they worked wonderfully. In fact Anuapm was so involved in the character and he truly believed that this change will definitely work. And I’m happy he convinced me about it.”
Anupam doesn't deny the last-minute change in the script saying, "I did ask for my character to be turned blind. The idea came to me as I was going up in the lift to the location of the shooting. My character is supposed to be a social commentator. How much more effective his comments on the world around us would be if he was blind. I was actually inspired by a line from Swami Vivekanand who said, 'If there's anything worse than a man who cannot see, it's a man without vision.' My character's comments on the world all around him are so much sharper because he can't see."
Anupam adds, "It was rather irregular, I admit that. I don't think a character has ever been turned blind for the camera minutes before the shooting. But it was for the betterment of the project. I'm so happy that I've Sachin Khedekar as a co-star. He understands the idiosyncrasies of a performance. Sachin has started his career with my television company in a serial called Imtihaan which was directed by Imtiaz Ali who's today making Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar. So grant me the vision to see the future even when I'm playing blind."
In fact, Anupam Kher was shooting in Pune for the bilingual film when on an impulse, he suddenly announced he had to leave for Delhi to join Anna Hazare’s fast-unto-death at the Jantar Mantar. Everyone at the shooting thought there was a family emergency.. Kher cancelled all his other engagements for Anna Hazare. He said he felt the cause to save the nation was far more important than his own personal activities. "Screen pe leader aur neta bahut ban ke dekh liya. I wanted to feel alive by being close to a real crusader. Anna Hazare is a god-sent saviour," the actor says emotionally. "The only time I felt so close to divinity was when I met Mother Teresa."
At the Delhi protest venue, Kher brought the house down with his rendition of the Mukesh anthem "Kissiki muskurahaton pe ho nissar...Jeena ussi ka naam hai". His home came under attack and the actor himself faced a privilege motion in the Maharashtra assembly over his alleged comments about the Indian constitution.
